Paisley and Strait Lead CMA Nominations

This year’s Country Music Awards nominations were announced: Brad Paisley and George Strait have taken the lead, with five nods each.

It has been an all-around good year for George Strait: inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame, having his 55th No. 1 single - “Wrapped” - and now, receiving CMA nominations in the best entertainer and best male vocalist categories.

He is also competing for album of the year for “It Just comes Natural,” single of the year for “Wrapped” and musical event of the year (his performance with Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson).

Brad Paisley does not have much to complain about either. He’s vying with Strait in the best entertainer and best male vocalist categories, and has three more nominations for album of the year for “Fifth Gear,” single of the year for “Ticks” and best music video for “Online.”

The other nominees in the entertainer of the year category are Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban.

Urban has also been nominated for best male vocalist and best album, with “Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing,” while Rascal Flatts received a nod for best vocal group.

Josh Turner, Chesney, Paisley, Strait and Urban are vying for the male vocalist of the year award.

Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood are nominated for female vocalist of the year.

Alison Krauss and Martina McBride both received four nominations. Krauss is also up for vocal group of the year for Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas and has two nominations for musical event of the year for performances with John Waite and Vince Gill.

McBride has been nominated for best single, song and music video of the year for her ballad “Anyway,” co-written with Brad Warren and Brett Warren.

Underwood has two more nominations for best single and music video of the year for “Before He Cheats.”

The Dixie Chicks have earned one nomination, for best vocal group.

The 41st Annual CMA Awards will be presented Nov. 7 in Nashville and be broadcast on ABC.
