PSP Slim Sells One Million Units In Japan

Maybe PlayStation 3 is lagging behind competition, but the new slim PSP seems to be a real hit. At least in Japan, where the new slim and light PSP has already sold one million units in just two months.

The new version was launched in Japan on September 20 and in the first four days Sony sold 250,000 units. According to Sony, the new PSP has hit the one million mark two weeks faster than the original PSP launched in December 2004.

The new PSP is a sleeker and more streamlined version of the popular original PSP system. It is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the previous generation and is more convenient to carry around at less than 1/2-pound in weight and less than 3/4-inch in thickness. The new PSP system also sports a thinner, more efficient battery, 64MB of system memory and video-out capabilities.

Also , the newly added “1 Seg” TV viewing feature on its 4.3 inch high resolution LCD screen  has also become the driver in attracting more and a broader range of users. Strong sales still continues after 2 months from launch, underpinning the acceleration of the expansion of the PSP platform.

According to VGChartz.com so far Sony has sold 26,52 million PSPs worldwide and 6,96 million in Japan.
