PS3's Firmware Update 2.40 Needs A Bit More Work

Sony Playstation users thinking about downloading the new PS3 2.40 Firmware Update will have to wait for its bugs to be repaired. The company recently announced its decision to pull off the market the update until a proper inspection will identify all the problems.

The decision came after the company received many complaints from users demanding an explanation on the reason why their consoles stopped working after updating their systems. The company’s official PS3 message board was quickly filled with such messages and Sony had to take immediate action.

The problems concern all model owners, as the bugs were reported for all the versions of the 40 Giga Bytes, 60 GB and 80 GB consoles.

Some of the users prepared for an enjoyable game session found themselves looking at a black screen with nothing to do in order to fix it. Of course, the bugs did not affect all the updated consoles and many the lucky ones were a bit disappointed with its new features, as in certain areas failed to live up to the expectations.

In its official statement, Sony said: “We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.” Until then, user will have to stick to the company’s 2.36 Firmware update.

The new PS3 2.40 Firmware Update brings a whole new set of features including custom soundtracks, a reorganized trophy system, a shortcut to Google searches and an in-game access to the XMB (Cross Media Bar) home screen.
