The winter holiday season is quickly approaching and Sony is
one of the companies that is sure preparing for Christmas. After a price cut
and launching the 40 GB PlayStation 3, now Sony has released also a PlayStation
3 update.
Starting today, the owners of a PlayStation 3 video gaming
console will be able to remotely start their console using an Internet-enabled
PSP and also to access real-time PlayStation news in a scrolling window through
the newly announced Information Board. Sony announced also other new features
for its PlayStation 3, such as the addition of custom themes for personalizing
the Cross Media Bar, or the ability to create photo and music playlists.
For installing the latest upgrade on their PlayStation 3,
the gamers should select the System Update option when connected to the
Internet or they should pre-download the update from www.playstation.com
Also Sony announced its Christmas line-up, for PlayStation
3, PS2 and PSP.
“This holiday season we are offering our largest line up of
quality software and hardware products to meet every taste, lifestyle and
budget,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing, SCEA.
“Triple-A masterpieces such as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Ratchet &
Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and bundles such as the Daxter PSP
Entertainment Pack and the SingStar PlayStation 2 Pack, will demonstrate SCEA’s
commitment to providing consumers with the most diverse software and hardware
on the market today.”
The lack of games titles is considered one of the reasons behind PlayStation’s
3 poor performances in terms of sales.
For PlayStation 3 Sony announced as first party titles The
Eye Of Judgment, Heavenly Sword, NBA 08, Lair, Folklore, Ratchet & Clank
Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Warhawk.
Amongst the third-party titles there are impressive games
such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfar and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock from
Activision, FIFA 08, Medal of Honor Airborn and The Orange Box from EA and three
great titles from Midway: BlackSite: AREA 51, Stranglehold Collector’s Edition and
Unreal Tournament 3.
So, although Nintendo’s Wii seems to be invincible, Sony is trying
hard to improve its video gaming console.
