People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, is calling Aretha Franklin “the Biggest Loser” because of her fur-wearing habit. These people sure have no mercy for them wrongdoers listed on their “Worst-Dressed of 2008” catalogue.
Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul, showed up at the Grammy awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 11 wearing a great big fur coat that seems to have angered those folks at PETA.
PETA vice president Dan Matthews wrote: “Music lovers may think of you as a 'queen,' but to animal lovers, you are a court jester. I'm sorry, Aretha, but your furs make you look like a clown.”
In the same letter, Matthews suggested the singer show some compassion for the needy and offer them her valuable fur coat, following the example set by Mariah Carey, “queen of compassion.”
Continuing his sarcastic jab, the VP recommended Franklin to “shed” the old-fashioned look that “adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice.”
However, Aretha Franklin was not the only target. PETA also singled out leather-wearing Marilyn Manson, Lindsay Lohan, who was called a real-life “Mean Girl” and British supermodel Kate Moss, who was named “super tramp.”
“Desperate Housewives” actress Eva Longoria-Parker, who was last year’s worst-dressed artist on the PETA’s list, was again spotted by the organization wearing fur garments. Eva was told to get “a quickie divorce from her stylist.”
PETA has convinced many celebrities to give up fur, either through kind words inspiring compassion towards our furry, non-talkative friends or through virulent attacks that probably frightened them away.
Christina Ricci, Martha Stewart and Alicia Keys have all confessed that they relinquished fur from their closets in order to escape the PETA’s attacks.
One kind gesture the unforgiving animal rights organization made was sparing Britney Spears from further denigration, since she already has plenty on her mind…
