In the world of Xbox,
PlayStation and Wii, the PC gaming industry has had a lot to put up with in
terms of competition, which is why the PC Gaming Alliance was founded, a
non-profit organization meant to “advance the PC as a worldwide gaming
platform.”
Microsoft, Dell, AMD,
Activision, Intel, Nvidia, Razer, Acer and Epic joined forces in order to “promote
the PC gaming industry and the PC as a gaming platform” and establish forums to
“help resolve industry-wide challenges
such as: Piracy, Cheating, Security, Consumer experience,” PC Gaming Alliance’s
official website
says.
The announcement was made at
this year’s Game Developers Conference by Randy Stude, director of the Gaming
Program Office at Intel: “PC Gaming Alliance members believe that we are
stronger and more effective together than any member company is alone, and that
our shared vision and group effort will improve PC gaming worldwide. Industry forums
have proven to foster competition and innovation among member companies and grow
markets while improving user experiences.”
The purpose of the PCGA is to enhance
the PC gaming experience for customers by all means possible. PC gaming is not
dead, on the contrary… and the allies are here to prove just that. The main
objectives of PCGA’s activities focus on industry leadership (PC gaming market
growth, PC gaming promotion, guidance to help solve problems such as piracy,
security etc.), platform leadership (guidelines to simplify hardware
specifications and speed the introduction of new technologies), and of course
consumer experience (work with developers, publishers and PCGA members to strengthen
the PC gaming experience in all ways possible).
The PC Gaming Alliance includes
both software and hardware creators, as well as game developers and publishers,
all committing to promote the PC gaming platform, enhance the PC gaming
experience for customers and encourage the adoption of the latest gaming
technologies.
