Owen Wilson's Plea for Privacy

Owen Wilson’s alleged suicide attempt has shocked all. The sunny, smiling actor is now recovering and has asked the media for privacy.

News of Owen Wilson’s reported attempt to take his own life first surfaced late Sunday evening, when TMZ reported that the actor had been admitted at a hospital in Santa Monica.

He had allegedly been found in his home, by younger brother Luke Wilson, also an actor, with his left wrist slit and an unknown amount of pills ingested. Luke reportedly called an ambulance and Owen was rushed to the hospital where he received emergency treatment.

The actor’s representative has not commented the situation. His brothers, Luke and Andrew Wilson, as well his parents, have been spotted at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The New York Daily News reports one spokesperson said Owen was in “good condition.”

Owen himself is keeping very quiet on the whole incident. He released a statement on Monday, through his publicist, Ina Treciokas, saying: “I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.”

No word on the rumored suicide attempt.

As the media tries to make some sense of the 38-year-old’s supposed suicide attempt, Kate Hudson’s name keeps popping up. The two actors worked together as co-stars in 2006’s romantic comedy “You, Me and Dupree.”

They began a relationship sometime in late 2006 and were spotted on numerous occasions together. The two reportedly broke up around Memorial Day weekend. Could Owen have been heart-broken all this time?

Leaving speculation aside, what is known is that Santa Monica Police issued a statement saying: “On Sunday Aug. 26. 2007 at 12:10 PM, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department at the 900 block of 23rd Street.”

The National Enquirer reported that Owen was initially taken to St. John's Health Center and then transferred to another hospital to be “detoxed.”

Owen Wilson was currently filming “Tropic Thunder,” a comedy directed by actor and friend Ben Stiller.

He has been enjoying great success over the past several years, even receiving an Academy Award nomination for his work on the screenplay for “The Royal Tenenbaums” (2001), in which he also co-starred.

Among his recent notable movies are “Meet the Parents” and its follow-up “Meet the Fockers,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “Wedding Crashers” and “Night at the Museum.”
