During his first official post-suicide attempt interview,
Hollywood actor Owen Wilson failed to mention anything that could have given
away his thoughts on his alleged suicide try in August.
The five-minute chat between Wilson and his longtime friend Wes
Anderson as part of the MySpace Artist on Artist series was mainly a very
amusing and candid talk about their latest movie “The Darjeeling Limited,”
which opened in wide release today.
Asked by Anderson if he got
trapped by some monkeys in India,
Wilson answers,
“Yes, I did. At first you think, gosh, monkeys, that's so kind of
incredible...But they didn't have your best interests at heart. They weren't
these adorable little creatures. ... They want to replace you,” People quoted
the star as saying.
As far as the movie itself is concerned, Wilson confessed
that it’s probably his favorite one so far, Wilson and Anderson having worked
together previously on multiple projects, including “Bottle Rocket” and “The
Royal Tenenbaums,” which they co-wrote, and “The Life Aquatic with Steve
Zissou.”
“My character says 'I want us to become brothers again like
we used to be.' I really like that line and it means a lot to me. There's a lot
of stuff like that in this movie that has that feeling. There's stuff that
feels exhilarating,” Wilson
explained.
“This to me feels like the most personal one for all of us,
like the most overtly personal,” Anderson
agreed.
Fox Searchlight, the studio that released "The Darjeeling
Limited," said that it approached MySpace with the idea to do the
interview, which was posted online at midnight Friday. Both Fox Searchlight and
MySpace.com are owned by the same parent company, News Corp.
While no one fully expected him to make any shocking
revelations, media outlets and fans couldn’t help but hope Wilson would shed some light into August’s
unhappy events when the 38-year-old actor made headlines for attempting to kill
himself.
At that time, Wilson
released a brief statement asking for privacy “during this difficult time,”
while media speculation concerning his reasons for such an act suggested his
breakup with actress Kate Hudson had something to do with it. However, the
actor is said to be moving on and is currently dating Carolina Cerisola. The
two previously dated but called it quits only to find each other again for
support.
Since August, Wilson kept a
relatively low profile, making his first major appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Darjeeling Limited,” where Anderson introduced Wilson
as “my best friend,” to great applause, and added: “I've never made a movie
without him, and I hope I never have to.”
