A teenager from Montgomery
went missing after he and four of his friends decided to take a bath in the Fox
River on Sunday afternoon in downtown Oswego,
authorities said.
Oswego is approximately 45
miles southwest of Chicago.
Around 4:30 p.m., the Oswego Fire Protection District was announced
on the missing of an 18-year-old man and a search was launched for him. His identity
wasn’t made public.
Witnesses say five teenagers were playing in the river when
one of them disappeared possibly swept away by a strong current.
Eight rescue boats and an airplane from the State Police were
sent to look for him on the waters of Fox River.
Water rescue crews from Montgomery, Aurora and Bristol Kendall were dispatched
to the scene of the incident. The area was immediately crowded with dozens of
fire trucks, squad cars, ambulances and water rescue crews. A command post was
set up near Washington Street.
Unfortunately, high water and currents prevented drivers
from entering the water, The Oswego Fire Protection District said, Chicago
Tribune reported.
The search was called off late Sunday night without a positive
result, leaving the young man’s family, friends, and concerned residents without
the hope he would be found alive. The search was expected to resume Monday
morning.
