Oscar-Winner Jane Wyman Passed Away

One of the 1940s and ‘50s biggest stars, actress Jane Wyman, 93, who was married to Ronald Reagan, has died on Monday at her Palm Springs home, Richard Adney of Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Cathedral City, California, told Associated Press.

The actress, who was honored with an Oscar for portraying the deaf rape victim in 1948’s "Johnny Belinda," was known to be living in seclusion for a number of years due to her declining health including arthritis and diabetes.

Wyman began her film career in 1937 with "Gold Diggers of 1937," and before it ended, she had made appearances in over 100 movies and television programs, being nominated for an Academy Award four times.

From 1981 to 1990 she played Angela Channing, a Napa Valley winery owner on CBS’ "Falcon Crest."

She later starred alongside Reagan in two of her early hits, the 1938 comedy "Brother Rat" and its sequel "Brother Rat and a Baby."

Reagan and Wyman got married on January 26, 1940 but despite being celebrated in fan magazines as one of Hollywood’s ideal unions, the two divorced eight years later, making Reagan the only American president to have been divorced.

The couple had three children, Maureen, who died in 2001, Michael, who was adopted and is currently a talk show host and Christine.

Married five times, Wyman rarely discussed her split from Regan, but in a 1968 newspaper interview she explained: "It's not because I'm bitter or because I don't agree with him politically. I've always been a registered Republican. But it's bad taste to talk about ex-husbands and ex-wives, that's all. Also, I don't know a damn thing about politics."

After Reagan died in June 2004, Wyman expressed her regrets several days later saying: "America has lost a great president and a great, kind and gentle man," AP reported.

The actress’ fame rose during the 1950s becoming one of the best and most sought-after actresses of all time after performing in Alfred Hitchcock’s "Stage Fright," Frank Capra’s on 'Here Comes the Groom" and "The Glass Menagerie."
