Orlando Beat Lakers 104-97 as Kobe Cools Off

The Orlando Magic won 104-97 Sunday night over the Los Angeles Lakers to record their best season start ever and at the same time match the franchise's 15-4 record to start the 1994-95 season.

Rashard Lewis scored 18 points and Dwight Howard helped with his 17 points and eight rebounds. Turkey’s Hedo Turkoglu was once again the key player and finished the game with 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. He is the only Orlando player to reach double figures in every game this season and also leads the team with 99 fourth-quarter points.

Keyon Dooling chipped in with 14 for the Magic, who have won five of their last six games. This is their first victory in Los Angeles since March 1996.

"I knew coming in today, it was going to be a tough game for us," Dwight Howard said after the game.

"Some nights, we have to get contributions from everybody on our team. I think we did a great job of staying composed through all the adversity that happened throughout the game and got a good win," he added.

The Orlando Magic is also 11 games over .500 for the first time since 1998-99 season 33-17. They lead the NBA with a 10-2 road mark.

On the other side, Kobe Bryant started the game very hot and poured 19 points in the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Lakers he cooled off as the game carried on and eventually finished with 28 points. Lamar Odom added 19 points and 17 rebounds and centre Andrew Bynum blocked seven shots while helping neutralize Howard in the paint for LA, who have lost two straight and five of their last seven.

Maurice Evans had nine points in 21 minutes of work and Brian Cook scored three points in 9 minutes, but this time against the Lakers as they were traded to Orlando on Nov. 20 for Trevor Ariza.
