A man gunned down his wife during a custody exchange Wednesday in Orange County.

After critically wounding his ex-wife, the man fled the scene and took with him their 9-year-old son prompting local authorities to issue a statewide Amber Alert for the boy.

Police identified the shooter as Lonnie Ramos. Investigators said the 46-year-old man was waiting for his ex-wife when she came to pick up their child Ryan. The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. in Lake Forest.

According to the police report regarding the incident, Ramos shot his former spouse through the window of her car. The woman suffered severe injuries as she was struck in the upper torso. She was rushed to the nearest hospital and is currently receiving treatment for her wounds.

The woman had came to pick up her son Bryan accompanied by a friend and the friend's 4-year-old daughter. Her friend was the one who drove her or help, Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said during a news conference.

Police investigators did not release the wounded woman’s identity.

A statewide Amber Alert has been issued for the 9-year-old boy by the local authorities. Ryan and his fugitive father could be in a red convertible Porsche, with California license plate 4BWU827, or a Chevy Suburban, California license plate 5LTC712, The Los Angeles Times reported.

The father is believed to be armed and dangerous.
