Oprah Winfrey disagreed with Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin previously discussed appearance on her show. Apparently her staff is sharply divided as far as this decision is concerned but it’s a well known fact that Winfrey has always been a backer of Barack Obama. He has appeared twice on her show, first in January 2005 and then in October 2006, before he announced his candidacy for president.
The TV host issued a statement Friday revealed by TMZ in which she explained that "At the beginning of this presidential campaign, when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates.” Her actual explanation of the refusal was the following: "I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."
According to a poll from Rasmussen Reports, Palin appears to be even more popular than Barack Obama at the moment. So her making more good ratings now wouldn’t do Obama any good.
However, candidates from both parties have previously appeared on other talk shows over the course of their campaigns, beginning with “Ellen” and “Tyra Banks” and finishing with late-night shows including: “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “The Late Show With David Letterman.”
Oprah Winfrey is without doubt, the most successful woman in television and Palin appearing on her show would certainly have a huge impact on the whole campaign.
