Oprah Winfrey’s “promised land” opened its gates under
strict supervision to shelter the star-studded fundraising gala for the
potential first African-American President of the US, Barack Obama.
Almost 1,500 guests walked on the red carpet at the astonishing
estate owned by the influential TV figure, Oprah, in the southern part of Santa Barbara. Respecting
the campaign financing regulations, the tickets for the imposing event were
sold for $2,300 a piece.
The guests were treated with food
and beverages, including corn-on-the-cob on sticks, mini-burgers, chips and
guacamole and lemonade and vodka, red or white wine; and of course, the other
guests around them. Film stars including Forest Whitaker, Ellen Pompeo, Tyler
Perry, Chris Rock, model Cindy Crawford, sports legends Ernie Banks and Bill
Russell and many others gathered at the fundraiser. Media was banned from
attending the event.
The guests were asked
to leave their cars at an equestrian center 10 miles away from the secluded
premise and were bused to the entrance. Though the host recommended light
garden garments, the stars seemed to be ready for photo sessions for fashion
magazines. The heels were strictly forbidden in order to protect the heavenly meadow and the flat
shoes were required.
The security controls weren’t superficial and
the cameras and recording devices were banned. Sent instructions announced the visitors that neither Oprah
nor Obama would be receiving presents.
Oprah explained her decision to get involved at the present
as it was the first time she felt she had a reason to do it.
“I haven't been
actively engaged before because there hasn't been anything to be actively
engaged in. But I am engaged now to make Barack Obama the next President of the
United States,”
she said.
The Democrat candidate has already gained support from Hollywood moguls like David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg,
and until now Omaba has managed to raise more than $58 million for his White
House bid.
Calling him “my favorite guy” on CNN's "Larry King Live", before
Obama announced his candidature, Oprah has proven once again her “choice”.
