Jessica Simpson, rock act Disturbed and comedian Carlos
Mencia have at least one thing in common: they will perform for U. S. troops in
Kuwait next month, in a concert organized and to be broadcast live by MySpace.com.
Operation MySpace is taking Jessica Simpson to Kuwait
on March 10, to perform for U. S.
Armed Forces troops stationed there. The event will be broadcast live on the
social networking site MySpace.com.
Rock bands Disturbed and Filter, pop act the Pussycat Dolls,
comedian Carlos Mencia, and DJ Z-Trip will also take part, CNET News.com reports. Other acts are expected to be added to the bill. An abbreviated
version of the concert is set to air April 12 on the cable network FX.
“It's truly an honor to perform for the troops,” Jessica
Simpson said in a statement, as quoted by the Associated Press. “Through
Operation MySpace, I get to serve my country by doing what I love to do in
front of thousands of brave men in uniform. It's every girl's dream!”
A personal message on Simpson’s website, sweetkisses.net,
sneaks in the note that she is “heading to Kuwait to do a show for the
troops.” “Then back in the studio” she says, referring to the beginning of her
message, where she tells fans she is working hard on her country record.
MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson said in a message from
MySpace that troops stationed all over the world have been using MySpace for
years now, “as a lifeline to communicate with their loved ones back home.”
Confessing that many of these troops have generously shared
their “unique experiences” through messages on MySpace and that he is “thrilled
to have the opportunity to thank them in person and bring along the entire
MySpace community.”
Anderson and co-founder Anderson and Chris DeWolfe will host
the event, according to CNET. The social network is collaborating with the
Department of Defense’s Armed Forces Entertainment division and its America
Supports You program to organize the event.
