Friday, one Romanian soldier was killed and other three suffered injuries in Afghanistan as the vehicles in which they were riding were attacked.

According to the International Herald Tribune, the Defense Ministry said that the soldiers were on patrol between Kabul and Qalat, a town in southern Afghanistan. They were about 30 miles (50 kilometers) from Qalat when they came under attack. Apparently they were attacked with grenades and two vehicles were hit.

The dead soldier was Claudiu Marius Covrig, 29, and this was his first mission to Afghanistan.

Romania has about 644 troops in Afghanistan and since 2002 about 23 soldiers have been wounded and 6 have died.

According to Reuters, two British soldiers from Afghanistan were also killed while they were on foot patrol, Thursday. The Ministry of Defense said that about 102 soldiers have been killed since 2001. The two soldiers were shot before they could arrive at their base in Helmand Province.

Moreover, three other British soldiers were killed Sunday. All 5 soldiers were from the 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, reported Reuters.

Also a third soldier was injured in the Thursday attack.

“A third soldier was also injured in the incident. They were evacuated to Camp Bastion medical facility where the injured soldier is receiving treatment for his wounds," informed the Ministry of Defense.
