Actor Sean Kanan, known for his roles on “General Hospital” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” could face 1 year in jail after being arrested for drunk driving in LA last month.
TMZ.com reports that 42-year-old longtime soap opera star Sean Kanan was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, August 18, by LAPD. Authorities said Wednesday that the actor has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol of .08 or greater.
Back in August, he posted $30,000 bail and was released.
Kanan is due back in court on September 17. He faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail, as well as a $1,000 fine, per count, according to TMZ. Kanan has had troubles with the law before.
He was previously convicted of DUI in 1998, therefore a second DUI carries a minimum jail sentence of 96 hours.
Kanan began his acting career in 1984, when he played the bad guy in “The Karate Kid, Part III.” In 1990, he joined Billy Bob Thornton in “The Outsiders.”
His soap stardom began in 1992, when he joined the cast of “General Hospital.” He played A.J. Quartermaine from 1992-1997 and was nominated for outstanding newcomer by the Soap Opera Digest Awards.
He also had a brief stint on NBC’s soap opera “Sunset Beach,” that ended when the show itself was cancelled.
In 2000, he joined yet another soap, this time playing Deacon Sharpe on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” until 2005.
Kanan is not the only celebrity or semi-celebrity to have DUI troubles.
Kirsten Storms, fellow cast member on “General Hospital,” was arrested last weekend for drunk driving in Los Angeles. The 23-year-old actress was released on a $5,000 bail and due in court on October 2.
While not a star of the soap operas, actor Austin Nichols, who starred in HBO’s short-lived “John from Cincinnati” series, was arrested in late August on suspicion of drunken driving. The 27-year-old faces up to 93 days in jail, as well as $500 fine and community service.
In early June, actor Shemar Moore, best known for his part in “The Young and the Restless” and for his current role on “Criminal Minds,” was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Los Angeles.
Before him, rapper Eve was arrested in April due to suspicion of driving under the influence after she crashed her car. The list goes on of course, with troubled Lindsay Lohan at the very top.
