Thursday, online DVD company Netflix announced that one million Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming machine users had activated their movie streaming service during the previous three months, since the two companies closed a partnership.
Moreover, Netflix informed that members of the Xbox Live community had watched 1.5 billion minutes of movies and TV episodes via the company’s Watch Instantly video service.
Nevertheless, Netflix did not reveal the number of subscribers it had gained due to the deal with Microsoft.
The company, which is widely known for their renting DVDs by mail service, is currently the only one that features a subscription-based streaming video service, since rivals including Amazon.com, Apple and Blockbuster are offering pay-per-view rental services.
Last month, Netflix revealed that its quarterly figures, which had exceeded all expectations, had much benefited from growth in its Web video streaming service.
The company released its Watch Instantly streaming service more than a couple of years ago, yet initially it was only aimed at personal computers, while since then, the company has rendered the service available to several other devices including the Roku set top boxes, the Xbox and LG Electronics products.
Netflix’s app enables Xbox LIVE Gold members, who are charged an annual $50 for several services, to instantly view content from Netflix on their television sets by using the Xbox 360 console if they are also Netflix subscribers, which costs them $9 per month so as to include Watch Instantly unlimited streaming.
Currently, Netflix’s library offers approximately 12,000 titles.
