The 92nd Indianapolis 500 race offered a set of worrying incidents during this weekend’s Memorial Day celebration, but fortunately, there were no major repercussions.
Rookie Graham Rahal managed to hit the wall, during the 37th lap, as he was trying to pass a car on the outside of turn 4 and A.J. Foyt IV had to abandon the race when his car caught fire. Luckily, neither one of the drivers were seriously hurt and only required minimal medical attention.
Also, Marty Roth crashed his car just as he was finnishing the fourth turn and Jaime Camera ended up hitting the wall in both turns 1 and 2 during the 79th lap. Both drivers seemed fine after their incidents.
Tony Kanaan was also involved in an accident: while leading the race on the 106th lap, he was passed by Scott Dixon and Marco Andretti. As he was coming out of the third turn he was hit by Sarah Fisher. Apparently, Fisher struggled all month to land a series of contracts with different sponsors and the fact that she had to leave the race early might affect her plans. Kanaan was quoted by the Associated Press saying that he felt really bad for Fisher and that he was present in the ambulance with her to make sure that she was all right. "She put so much into it, and I just feel bad for her," he said.
The race was won by Scott Dixon after struggling with Vitor Meira in the final laps.
