Just a few hours to go until the fall’s first huge event: Britney Spears’s comeback and of course, that other thing…Oh, yes, the MTV Video Music Awards.

Millions of people hold their breaths for what could be a really unexpected and surprising in a good way performance from America’s most talked-about celebrity. But this night could also be the greatest disappointment of all times. If she doesn’t make her way back into our hearts tonight, who knows when she will have the opportunity to try it (baby,) one more time?

Aside from Britney’s big night, this ceremony is also a celebration of the year’s best people in the music business. Rihanna will perform alongside rapper T.I., as she had a great year hitting number one after number one with tunes like “Take a Bow” and “Disturbia.”

Other performers to rock the stage at tonight’s show include the Jonas Brothers, Kid Rock , Pink, Lil Wayne, Christina Aguilera and Paramore and Katy Perry, the girl that kissed another girl and wrote an extremely successful song about it. She will not only perform her own hit single, but also a snippet of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” as MTV pays tribute to some of its more memorable moments as it celebrates its 25th year. Some say that trying to top off not the original performance, but the one with Britney, Madonna and Christina kissing is pretty daring.

Britney’s actual role in the ceremony is kept secret, but she is nominated for several awards, including the show's top honor, video of the year, for “Piece of Me.” Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for Britney and hope that this is really going to be her big comeback.
