Andy Richter, who served as O'Brien's sidekick on “Late Night” from 1993 to 2000, when he left to pursue his acting career, signed on to be the announcer on Conan O’Brien’s new “The Tonight Show.”
The comedic actor will join O’Brien when NBC’s new “The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien” begins June 1. However, he won’t be sitting on the couch next to O’Brien as he did in “Late Night’s” early years. Additionally, Richter will also be featured in the show's both live and pre-taped comedy bits.
“Andy is one of the funniest people I know, and we’ve maintained a close friendship since he left Late Night,'” O'Brien said in a press release. “We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to The Tonight Show.”
Earlier this month, O’Brien announced that Max Weinberg and the Max Weinberg 7 will be joining the “The Tonight Show” as the house band.
Since leaving O’Brien’s side in 2000, Richter has been involved in several comedy series including the short-lived Fox show “Andy Richter Controls the Universe” and also-short-lived Peacock skein “Andy Barker, P.I.”
Richter has also appeared in films including “Talladega Nights,” “Blades of Glory,” “Semi-Pro,” “Dr. T and the Women,” two Madagascar movies and later this summer, he will be seen in the Fox feature “They Came From Upstairs.”
