Octuplets in California are “very well”

On Tuesday, a doctor at the hospital were the octuplets were born stated that the eight children are doing very well, as they don’t need breathing support anymore.

The children were born on Monday at the Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center in South California. The identity of the mother has not yet been revealed.

This is the second case of octuplets in the entire history of the United States.  Dr. Mandhir Gupta, neonatologist at the hospital, stated that initially, the condition of two of the babies was weak, as they needed breathing support for the first several hours from their birth.

Quite surprisingly, the doctors had initially known that there were seven children to be given birth, so the entire team was literally shocked when they discovered that there are actually eight children, six boys and two girls. The babies weigh between 1 pound, 8 ounces, and 3 pounds, 4 ounces.

The staff that assisted the delivery of the children was impressive, consisting in 46 doctors, nurses and assistants. The children were delivered through a Caesarean section onto the lower abdomen. The doctors say that they have been practicing for the last several months in order to be prepared for such an uncommon situation.

The doctors will keep the babies under observation for the next several weeks, as they stated that there are a series of potential problems that may arise during this period.
