Becoming the mother of the longest-living octuplets in the U.S. turned 33-year-old Nadya Suleman into a celebrity literally over night. The new found fame might be the answer to her poor financial situation as business proposals from various media outlets started pouring in as of last week.
Already a mother of six, now a mother of fourteen, Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to six boys and two girls on January 26, is being deluged with offers for book deals and TV shows, but has not decided what she might do other than care for her children, according to Joann Killeen, president of Killeen Furtney Group, a public relations company.
Some media reports have speculated that Suleman might be paid as much as $2 million for an interview, but publicist Michael Furtney said, “The money itself is not the object.”
”She has her view of her life with her kids as they go down life's highway,” he said. “She wants to be sure they are well cared for.”
Currently still confined to a Los Angeles hospital room, Suleman reportedly plans on starting a career as a childcare expert, and is searching for the best deal that would help her raise her children, all younger than 8 year old.
Suleman, who is unmarried and still lives with her divorced parents in a three-bedroom house in Whittier, a suburb of Los Angeles, might be starting her media tour really soon, as she reportedly intends to talk to Oprah Winfrey and Diane Sawyer sometime this week.
Even though many people have inundated blogs and Internet message boards with messages criticizing Suleman, Furtney said the public will be persuaded that “she is a very good person and someone they should support” after they learn more about her.
He described her as “very bright” with a “great sense of humor.”
”She has a great attitude about all of this, which is remarkable,” Furtney added.
