In spite of the fact that Dr. Michael Kamrava is under investigation by the American Society For Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Medical Board of California after he implanted six embryos into Nadya Suleman’s womb who gave birth to eight babies last month. The ASRM stated that the doctor decided to ignore the directives he received even if women Suleman’s age should have a maximum of two embryos implanted during a single cycle.
As if that was not serious enough, the controversial fertility specialist also treated an unnamed 49-year old woman at his clinic in Beverly Hills who is now five months pregnant with quadruplets. The woman already has three full grown children but wanted a baby with her new husband who is thought to be around 20 years younger than her.
Apparently this woman has been admitted to the LA County-USC Medical Centre from the Good Samaritan hospital because she does not have an adequate medical insurance and she will remain there until she gives birth.
According to the state records, there are only 14 quadruplet births a year in California and Nadya’s octuplets are the longest-surviving set of eight babies born in the United States. Therefore the risks of having perfectly healthy babies are extremely high, considering the fact that a woman who carries triplets might give birth to a child with cerebral palsy 47 times more often than a woman who only carries a single child.
So what are the odds, knowing the fact that the 57-year-old Dr. Kamrava’s clinic has one of the worst success rates of any fertility clinic in the country? So far, from 61 procedures conducted in 2006, only two resulted in births.
