Fox News’ hothead Billy O’Reilly will finally be able to
interview Barack Obama, as the Democratic presidential nominee is scheduled to
appear on “The O’Reilly Factor” tonight at 8 p.m., just a couple of hours before
Sen. John McCain officially accepts the presidential nomination on the final
night of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.
Fox News released a press statement saying that the
interview will tape Thursday afternoon and will air over multiple episodes.
The move is one step further in resolving the differences
between Barack Obama and Fox News, a network that had to manage without Obama
for months, since the Democratic presidential candidate has had a tense history
with the cabler owned by Rupert Murdoch.
However, the so-called quarrel technically ended in April,
when Barack Obama appeared on “Fox News Sunday,” although several invitations
from Billy O’Reilly were not answered.
The O’Reilly interview may come in consequence of a direct
confrontation that took place three months ago between Obama and Fox Television
chairman and former GOP campaign strategist advisor Roger Ailes to solve “a
tentative truce,” according to a Vanity Fair report. Nonetheless, the meeting
was arranged by Rupert Murdoch himself, reportedly fed up with having his
network rejected by Obama.
Fox News continues to lure most viewers, especially during
the Republican Convention. Moreover, the network has the strongest potential lead-in
to John McCain’s acceptance speech due to be delivered tonight. Barack Obama
may as well make the best of the O’Reilly interview, as he has the possibility
to outshine his opponent’s grand night.
