The president-elect is already working on making the transition from Bush to himself as smooth as possible. In order to do that, Barack Obama is advising Bush to initiate certain changes that will help the American people sooner rather than later.
The two gentlemen met in the Oval Office, while Laura Bush gave Michelle Obama a tour of the White House.
While the women talked about the duties of the First Lady – which includes picking china for official dinners – their husbands talked about the economic crisis.
Barack Obama is dead-set on convincing George W. Bush to allow a part of the $700 billion bailout fund to go to the automobile industry. After the real estate business almost collapsed in the United States, it was the auto industry’s turn to hit rock-bottom. Auto giants are unsure about their future. One such example is General Motors, who announced that they might declare bankruptcy before the end of the year, despite the approach of the holiday season. The Bush Administration has so far been reluctant to pump any money in that direction, but Barack Obama has convinced the current President to re-think his convictions. On the other hand, Bush agreed to reconsider his position on funding the auto industry, if Obama and the Congressional Democrats agree to rethink their position of opposition to free-trade with Colombia.
It seems that Obama is more than eager to start making the changes he announced in his campaign. He seems to be off to a good start by keeping his promises and insisting in implementing the measures he advertised in his campaign. However, Barack Obama must remember that there can only be one President at a time and that there are still two months before he will become President.
