Barack Obama’s electoral victory has brought many Americans to tears – but tears of joy. Most voters were convinced by his policies, some the total opposite of the ones enforced by the Bush Administration.
The reality of the current state of the United States’ economy, the federal deficit, and the wars – these seem to be the priorities for the future United States President, the current president-elect Barack Obama. Many fear that the health care system will take an undeserved back seat as opposed to these more globally urgent issues.
Their concern is not without reason, as the Bush administration has constantly postponed any significant restructuring when it comes to the health care system. The crisis has prompted many employers to stop offering health care insurance that covers the family of the employee, usually the children and sometimes the spouses.
However, members of Obama’s staff have assured the voters that the president-elect will focus on children’s health care among the first things he will look into after he is instated. The program he wants to implement is last year’s SCHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program), deterred by President Bush. Also, the president-elect wants to make some changes in domains such as energy transformation and stem cell research. His steps are set on progress rather than stagnation.
His staff also encouraged the president-elect to keep with his plan to reform the health care system of the United States, irrespective of the economic situation. Postponing such a measure would be detrimental to the “change” policy Obama has based his campaign on. The people of America want to see change – and they want to see it now.
