The vacationing U.S. President Elect Barack Obama has taken his daughters and family members to the Sea Life Park in Hawaii.
The group enjoyed a dolphin show on Friday, visited a touch pool and the sea lion exhibit. Besides Obama’s two girls – 7-year-old Sasha and 10-year-old Malia – the group also included the President Elect’s half-sister Maya Sotero-Ng, her husband, daughter and friend Eric Whitaker.
The group managed to break from the pool of reporters that follows him everywhere he goes. Obama’s group traveled by motorcade about 15 minutes to the Sea Life Park where they met with the President’s family friends and stayed for about 90 minutes. The media caught up with them about an hour after they arrived. The media wasn’t allowed in the water park.
As the Obamas stopped for a sandwich and shaved ice, the press took photographs of them for about 20 minutes, much longer than usual. Obama then asked the crews of about 15 photographers to let him eat in peace.
The media group is following Obama everywhere under an agreement between the President Elect’s aides and the media. However, this hour long break away from the media will most likely be the last Obama will see in the near future. Once he moves with his family at the White House, such a move would by almost impossible.
