In the case of the former football star , the jury has reached the verdict. Simpson, 61, and his partner in crime, codefendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart, 54 were both found guilty on all charges and were immediately taken into custody.
Simpson along with five other men stormed into a hotel room at the Palace Station hotel and casino in September 2007 and robbed two memorabilia dealers. Two of the men were carrying guns, allegedly at O.J.’s spur, who claims he only wanted to retrieve some of his personal belongings, including his footballs and plaques that were allegedly stolen from him.
The dealers, Bruce L. Fromong and Alfred Beardsley, who were led to believe that a prospective buyer was coming to browse the goods, say that the objects related to the career of the former NFL star, $100,000 worth of memorabilia, were theirs to sell, while Simpson claims that he actually lost the items while trying to hide them from the family of Ronald Goldman.
The altercation only lasted about six minutes, enough for the defendants to be charged with a dozen crimes, including felony kidnapping, armed robbery, conspiracy, burglary, coercion and assault with a deadly weapon. They face mandatory minimum sentences of five years behind bars and could be sentenced to life in prison on December 5.
Simpson’s lawyer, Yale Galanter, says the verdict was no surprise and repeatedly accused the media and the officials of wanting to ”get back” at his client, as many Americans still hold Simpson responsible for the June 1994 stabbing deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
