Sony Computer Entertainment America has made an announcement
Tuesday that the sequel to Resistance, the critically acclaimed PS3 launch
title is due to be released on the 4th of November, just three days before Microsoft’s
Gears of War 2, which many see as a competing franchise.
The title, developed by Insomniac Games, will also be available in the US in a special
Collector’s Edition, priced $79.99 which will feature a number of exclusive
bonuses:
- An action figure of a Chimeran Hybrid armed with a
bullseye, made by DC
- unlimited Exclusive HVAP in-game multiplayer weapon skin
- Double-sided Resistance 2 art book, offering unique
perspectives on the game world
- Special edition cover art selected by fans
- DVD with special features: Resistance chronology video:
“Shattered History” detailing the timeline of game events, a behind the scenes
making-of video title “America Forever Lost”, a preview of William Dietz’s
upcoming “Resistance: The Gathering Storm” novel, and a digital copy of the Resistance comic book, issue #0, by Wildstorm Productions.
A multiplayer and coop beta is scheduled for October, with
preferential spots for pre-order customers, Qore magazine subscribers, and
owners of the Qore third episode, however there is a free registration on a
first-come first-served basis available here.
The game continues the story from Resistance: Fall of man,
placing the player in the boots of Lt. Nathan Hale as he struggles with the
Chimeran Invasion (this time in America)
and the virus in his own body, threatening to turn him into one of the same
monsters he’s fighting.
Insomniac has also introduced classes for the online
battles, like the Heavy, the Special Ops or the Medic. New vehicles (including
the alien-built Stalker, which will have cloaking abilities, and the Chameleon)
and more intense boss-fights are also promised, besides the partial randomized
geometry in level spots.
