Police still don’t know who is responsible for the shot a man driving a Bentley Friday morning on the northbound 101 Freeway. The attacker left the victim in critical condition and the incident jammed traffic during the morning commute and beyond.
California Highway Patrol and police officers responding to a 3:25 a.m. shots-fired call discovered the bullet-riddled Bentley stopped on the freeway near the eastbound Interstate 10 connector.
Police say the man was not expected to survive after being critically wounded in the shooting. The identity of the 15 year old man was not released. Police say the car had at least 10 bullet holes. Police say motorists stopped to help the driver after his vehicle hit a center median.
"There was a person driving erratically. People thought he was drunk," police Lt. Paul Vernon told Fox-TV News. "And he ended going into the median." The car apparently was targeted as it was moving but it was unclear whether the attacker was in a pursuing car or fired from someplace off the freeway, police Lt. Paul Vernon told Fox-TV News.
All lanes of the northbound 101 Freeway and the Interstate 5 and Interstate 10 connectors were reopened by 11:43 a.m. after being closed for nearly eight hours while authorities conducted an investigation.
