They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and lately the coolest thing in the smartphone world is having a touch screen device and a store with a lot of applications for your gadget.
So after Apple has released its AppStore, Palm, BlackBerry, Google and Samsung were quick to follow up with their own versions.
Now, according to some rumors, it’s time for Nokia to join the trend by launching an AppStore for its Symbian OS. Apparently the new store will be officially announced during the upcoming Mobile World Congress, which is set to take place in Barcelona from 16 to 19 February.
Of course, having an AppStore for Symbian is a logical step for Nokia and it comes as no surprise especially since last year the Finnish mobile phones maker has announced the Symbian Foundation.
However, for the moment, nothing is official and the rumors were started by Eldar Murtazin, editor of Mobile-review.com, who has a post on his blog related to this matter.
Symbian is still the leading OS in the mobile world, but lately it had to face an increased competition from Apple’s iPhone, Microsoft’s Windows for mobile devices, Google’s Android and Research in Motion’s platform for its Blackberry devices, as well from a mobile version of Linux, dubbed LiMo.
