The Finnish cell phone maker Nokia opened today its N-Gage
gaming service and the social networking site "Share on Ovi".
Announced last year, Ovi, which in Finnish means “door”, is the
generic brand name of Nokia’s new Internet services which enables consumers to
easily access their existing social network, communities and content, as well
as acting as a gateway to Nokia services.
Initially, Nokia planned to open the N-Gage gaming platform in
November last year, but the launch was postponed due to software glitches.
In December, Nokia was forced again to push back the launch, due to the same
reasons.
Now, N-Gage First Access allows Nokia N81 owners to download
the pre-release version of the N-Gage application, try and buy N-Gage games,
and provide feedback on the experience.
“Share on Ovi” will allow to Nokia’s users to share photos
and videos. The website is based on the technologies created by Twango, a
company acquired by Nokia in July 2007.
In fact the launch of the new service was announced on the
former Twango
blog.
“First, we are now part of Nokia’s new service brand,
“Ovi”. As of Today, the Twango brand
will be a fond memory. We are now Share
on Ovi. As you can see from looking at
the site, we’ve moved to a new look and feel that you will see among all the
Ovi services as they roll out’” wrote Jim Laurel, Director, Service Development
– Nokia
““Share Online” is a cool application for your Nokia mobile
device that allows you to capture photos and videos and upload them to the
service directly! It also allows you to view feeds of media from your
contacts and people that are sharing from you, so you can keep in touch with
your friends better than ever. We’ll provide a download link for this
software on the Share homepage in the next few days,” he added.
Beside, N-Gage and Share on Ovi, Nokia’s Ovi portal includes
also Nokia Music Store and Nokia Maps.
