For all South Park fans out
there, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have something in store for them; all the
episodes ever made will become available for free on a website created
especially for that. The South Park Digital Studio, the joint venture between
Comedy Central (a division of MTVN Entertainment Group, a unit of Viacom) and
the two creators of the popular animated show, and sponsored by Toyota and
Virgin, will give fans something they’ve always wanted: free episodes, from all
the 12 seasons, all legal.
The two show producers couldn’t
have said it better: “We got really sick of having to download our own show
illegally all the time, so we gave ourselves a legal alternative.” For the time
being, the site is in its beta version, but it already attracted 3 million
views since its launch day, last Wednesday. According to the contract obligations, every episode premiered on Comedy
Central will be available for seven days, after which they will permanently
return to the site 30 days after the premiere.
“The South Park phenomenon began
as a viral video clip. Now it continues its digital and creative leadership
with the launch of an extensive site devoted entirely to ‘South Park’,” said Doug
Herzog, MTV Networks Entertainment Group. “Southparkstudios.com is a true
representation of Matt and Trey’s vision and is the ultimate online destination
for ‘South Park’ fans – allowing them full access to every ‘South Park’ episode
ever created.”
The animated TV series became a
worldwide phenomenon since its debut in August 1997, and is currently at its 12th
season. The story takes us to a little town in Colorado, called South Park, in
which a bunch of kids face everyday reality in the most satirical way possible,
and with a humor that is to be appreciated. Stanley, Kyle, Eric, Kenny or
Butters are just a few of the characters that have created both controversy and
many fans around the world, in a simple, yet humorous animated show.
