Who would have thought that the producers of Oscar-winning film “No Country for Old Men” would fail to give Tommy Lee Jones the money they agreed upon? Although at least half of the movie’s success is due to Jones’ performance, the 61-year old actor found himself in the embarrassing situation of filing a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures last Thursday.
Tommy claims that he was promised "significant” bonuses and other compensation depending on the success of the film and since the movie actually did pretty good at the box office, with more than $160 million, and also won 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, it looks like Paramount Pictures owes a pretty considerable amount of cash to Mr. Jones. $10 million to be exact, according to the actor’s auditor, who was brought in to look at the production accounts.
Tommy Lee also says that he was paid a reduced fee up front when he signed on for the flick, and that there were known errors in his contract that weren't corrected before the movie was made.
“No Country for Old Men” is a highly praised film directed by the famous Coen Brothers, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin. Critics say that it’s the Coens’ best movie so far and the huge amount of awards, including three British Academy of Film awards, two Golden Globes, and four Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Joel and Ethan Coen), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem) only comes to prove that.
