No DUI Charge for Shia LaBeouf, Perhaps Suspended License

Shia LaBeouf’s late July arrest on suspicion of drunk driving has come to a pretty decent conclusion. Authorities say there is not enough evidence to charge him with a DUI but his driver’s license will be suspended because he refused to take a blood-alcohol test.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department ruled within days of the accident that Shia LaBeouf had not been at fault for the crash, as the other driver had apparently run over a red light.

The investigation is now complete though and the conclusion final: LaBeouf will not be charged with drunk driving. His driver’s license will be suspended though, for a period anywhere between 6 and 9 months, as he refused to take a blood-alcohol test.

The weekend crash occurred in the early hours of July 26 in West Hollywood; LaBeouf was driving his pickup truck, he made a left turn at the intersection of La Brea and Fountain avenues and collided with another vehicle. As a result of the impact, his truck rolled over.

He also sustained injuries, minor ones to his head and a knee and a serious one to his left hand. He required extensive surgery for the hand injury and a one-month break from filming as a result of the crash.

He underwent surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and spent nearly a week recovering, after which he was released and photographed around town by paparazzi with a cast on his left hand.

The other two persons involved, a passenger in his car later identified as his “Transformers 2” co-star Isabel Lucas and the driver of the other vehicle, suffered only minor injuries.

A hearing has been scheduled for Friday, when the fate of LaBeouf’s driver’s license will be decided.
