No Angelina Jolie For Upcoming ‘Lara Croft’ Flick

According to recent reports, action heroine Lara Croft is about to get her third film. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Warners Bros. and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a reboot of “Tomb Raider,” the popular video game action franchise.

Two previous movies were made by Paramount “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001) and “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” (2003) and had actress Angelina Jolie in the role of the hot and somewhat reckless archeologist. Both films were met with lukewarm critical reviews, Jolie being awarded a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress for her performance, while “Cradle of Life” was not even a financial success.

The first film debuted at number one with $48.2 million in 2001 and is the most successful video game adaptation to date, grossing $300 million worldwide.

Jolie, who popularized the Croft character on film, is reportedly not being considered for the latest installment. Instead, producers are looking at Jolie-look-alike “Transformers” star Megan Fox. However, Angelina Jolie herself has said after shooting the first two installments of the franchise that she had no interest in returning to the Lara Croft character, though she admitted to having a lot fun playing her.

”Tomb Raider,” which was published in 1996 by a London-based video game company called Eidos, was a wildly popular game that involved the daredevil archaeologist Lara Croft on a series of global missions. Several spinoff games have been published since, with a 10th-anniversary edition of the game released in 2006.
