Nintendo's Wii Music Is Family-Oriented Guitar Hero

Nintendo's Wii Music has been unleashed at the company's E3 press conference. The game challenges the already well-established Guitar Hero and Rock Band with a more family-oriented music game. Wii Music will be released sometime soon and makes use of the gaming platform's Wii Remote, Nunchuck, and Balance Board.

The game will be very simple to play, with no sense of rhythm whatsoever required. Just hold the Wiimote and move your hands like you would if you were playing an instrument. In all, sixty instruments available, including popular items such as drums, sax, piano, violin, guitar, marimba, and various percussion instruments.

Game designer Shigeru Miyamoto managed to play a classic Nintendo theme: Mario. The game clearly targets a different group than Guitar Hero or Rock Band. This Nintendo game won't let you keep score, miss a note, or lose a song. It's not for hardcore gamers or anything close to that. It's a game for grandpa and your kids. The game probably targets those elderly patients which have made headlines for using the Nintendo Wii to remain active.

The game can be played in single or multiplayer mode, and no pricing has been released. The thing will apparently feature tunes from Super Mario and other Nintendo classics, with no word as of yet about an actual playlist.

The game is another step from Nintendo to bring videogames to the general population, which in turn alienates old-school gamers. It also turns into a great gift for my parents. I'll wait for my older daughter to turn 4 and I'll get her one too.
