Nintendo’s Weekly VC Update Includes Unseen Mario Adventures

October’s first update operated by Nintendo on Wii Virtual Console has a special meaning: it brings games never launched in Western Hemisphere, including Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels and the Japanese shooter Sin&Punishment.

This month’s Virtual Console update is marked by the addition of the new Import genre section, which apparently is aimed at popularizing endemic titles that have never been launched globally. Of course, the Mario franchise, with its insanely huge popularity after so many years, is the one that inaugurates this new channel, followed closely by the N64 game Sin&Punishment.

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, originally built for Nintendo Entertainment System and released in Japan under the title Super Mario Bros. 2, will be available for 600 Wii points. The game, which has made brief appearances in the West, follows Mario and Luigi’s adventures as they (again) try to rescue the Princess, battling their way to her castle with the help of new skills. Mario can stop quicker, while Luigi can jump higher, but the foes are mainly the same, except for some Poison Mushrooms.  Backward Warp Zones and the occasional wind gust (which can help or hinder your progress) are also present, along with the usual secret worlds.

Sin&Punishment is Japanese shooter, whose plot revolves around the fight two teenagers (Saki and Airan) have to engage against Ruffians, in a future when Earth is overpopulated and in desperate need for vital resources. Created for Nintendo 64, S&P has never been presented outside Japan and it still keeps the original English voice-overs with Japanese subtitles. Fans will have to spend 1200 Wii points to be able to play it. The game is rated T for teen, unlike Mario, which is rated E for everyone.
