Nintendo’s DSi Launched Today In Japan

Technology is, without a doubt, one of the fields where progress and update are vital for success, especially when you market a product to one of the impatient target-groups today – gamers. Gaming handhelds are very popular product, because they give you the mobility a gaming console simply can’t.

Nintendo brought out the highly popular DS handheld, which is strikingly different from the other handhelds, such as Sony Play Station’s PSP, mainly because it sports two screens.
Nintendo DSi, the new version, is thinner than the current Nintendo DS and for that reason looks altogether small. The Japanese company has released Nintendo DSi, first in Japan, on Saturday, November 1st. The price of the handheld is of 18,900 yen (178 dollars).

Nintendo DSi will reach the overseas markets sometime during the summer of 2009.To be different from the current DS model, the new one can take pictures and play music, making the transition to another level of advanced handhelds.

Worldwide, DS sales grew with 3% in April-September as opposed to the same period in 2007. In Japan, however, they dropped by 64% in the same time-span. Nintendo hit the mark with the DS and their Wii console, the latter outselling Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in worldwide sales.

The company’s president Satoru Iwata said on Friday that he was pleasantly surprised that despite the economic crisis, now at a global level, there was still a high demand for the DS. The launch in Japan featured 200,000 DSi units for the weekend.
