Nintendo Will Not Cut Wii Price in US for Holidays

Nintendo is to stick with its $249 price tag in the United States for the successful Wii gaming console, the company has made clear. "We'll stay at $249 for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make," said George Harrison, head of marketing for Nintendo Co Ltd's, to Reuters. "We think we're in a great position. Both our competitors took price reductions and it hasn't stalled our momentum at all."

The company is currently evaluating how to distribute the consoles it is producing, in order to balance the different markets. The U.S. market is expected to absorb as many consoles as Nintendo can ship here. Harrison told Reuters in July that Nintendo expected supply shortages to last through the holidays. This was confirmed by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fil-Aime earlier this month.

Also, the holidays will bring some changes at Nintendo's top marketing management. George Harrison, Beth Llewellyn (senior director of public relations) and now Perrin Kaplan (vice president of marketing) have confirmed all they will not be relocating from Redmond, Washington to California and New York.

A couple of days ago, Nintendo has announced it's preparing for the holiday season a new game, Wii Fit. After everybody fell in love with Wii Sports, now it’s time for some fitness. Nintendo will deliver Wii Fit, which will go on sale on December 1, with a device called Wii Balance Board.

Shaped like a household body scale with a white top and grey bottom, Wii Balance Board connects wireless to Nintendo’s Wii and it contains pressures sensors used to control the virtual movements. Also, the sensors are used to measure the user's center of mass and body mass index.

* Wii Fitness includes more than 40 types of training activities which falls into four fitness categories:

* Aerobic Exercise: 10-minute exercises that are designed to get the heart pumping.

* Muscle Conditioning: Controlled motions using arms, legs and other body parts.

* Yoga Poses: Classic poses that focus on balance and stretching.

* Balance Games: Fun activities, such as ski jumping and heading soccer balls, which challenge the player’s overall body balance.

According to Reuters, Wii Fit will be priced at 8,800 yen ($75).

Also, Nintendo and Capcom have confirmed that the successful Monster Hunter title for Sony’s PSP platform is to be ported on the Wii platform, after Capcom ran into some cost-related problems concerning PS3 development.
