Four years ago, when Nintendo Wii was presented to the world under its code-name, Revolution, nobody was willing to bet on its chances against Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Even after Nintendo has announced in 2006 the official name of its next-gen console and the complete list of the features, many analysts were quick to note that Wii will be an easy pray for the powerful Sony’s gaming machine, which was yet to be released.

 

There were many comments about casual and hardcore gamers and what they will choose and ; However, in November 2006 when Nintendo Wii have hit the store shelves, one thing has become clear: the fight was already lost for Sony, which at the time was struggling to solve the BluRay problems of its PS3. After the fist month, even Microsoft has already started to pay attention to this apparently insignificant gaming-console.

 

Month after month and year after year, Nintendo Wii broke record after record, leaving its competitors far behind.Today, Nintendo has officially announced that 50 million Wiis have flooded the world since its initial release and Wii ia already a pop culture phenomenon.

 

Games like Wii Fit or Wii Sports have already changed the way gaming is perceived by people. From the young boys to grand fathers, everybody loves Wii. And who would have thought five years ago, besides people from Nintendo, that the little gaming-consol Revolution would live up to its name?

For Nintendo, Wii has proven to be a real gold mine, especially because the price tag was left unchanged since November 2006.

 

Adding to this that just few days ago, Nintendo has celebrated 100 million Nintendo DSs sold, it’s quite clear who is ruling the gaming world.
