Nintendo Sues Nyko Over Kama Wireless Nunchuck

The Japanese game maker Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Nyko, a company that creates accessories for gaming and digital lifestyle, over a device called Kama Wireless Nunchuck.

Nyko is promoting its Kama Wireless Nunchuck for the Nintendo Wii as the first wireless Wiimote controller attachment for the popular Wii console.

The device was introduced earlier this year at CES and it even won “Best of Show" in the Gaming category by CNET.

The Wii Nunchuck gets it's name from the martial arts weapon, the ''Nunchucks'' because of the similarities in design; a chain/wire connects two heavier objects at either end, in this case to the Wiimote.

Nintendo considers that Nyko has infringed its patent over Nunchuck name and violated its patented design.

Nintendo asked the court to issue an order to stop Nyko to sell the wireless controller, which is priced at $39,99. The Japanese company, which is Kyoto-based but has offices in Washington and Redmond, is seeking also cash compensation.

"While Nintendo supports the creation of innovative games and products used with our game systems, we cannot allow third parties to infringe our intellectual property rights," Denise Kaigler, a vice president with Nintendo of America, said in a statement.

However, in a phone interview with Bloomberg, Nyko spokesman C.C. Swiney said “We have not knowingly violated anyone's intellectual property and we're still examining this”
