Despite the economic crisis, Nintendo has no intention to cut the price of its flagship products, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DSi. During a new conference held in Tokyo, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said that the company has no intention to boost the sales of its gaming consoles by introducing a new pricing scheme.
The price of Nintendo Wii, which was launched in November 2006 in Japan and worldwide, has remain unchanged at $250, while its rivals, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 underwent repeatedly through price cuts.
Nintendo Wii is still the most popular gaming console in the United States and its monthly sales are almost double compared to Xbox 360 and PS3.
However, it seems like Wii has started to slowdown on its home market. Last month Nintendo Wii was outsold by PS3 for the first time since its initial launch. Last month, Nintendo Wii has celebrated 50 million units sold.
As for Nintendo DS and its younger brother, Nintendo DSi, they practically don’t have a competition in terms of sales, Sony’s gaming handheld PSP being constantly outsold month after month.
