Nintendo Channel Says Hello To U.S.

As of this week, Wii’s Nintendo Channel went live for U.S. users, offering them everything from game demos, to trailers, mini documentaries, and useful information on Wii and Nintendo DS. In addition to that, users will be able to make purchases directly from their Wii, as well as check out some game recommendations.

The announcement was made this Wednesday, and Wii owners seem to have received it quite well so far, although some of them have had some complaints about the channel being slow. The Nintendo Channel supports DS downloads and has already been released in Japan.

On May 5, Nintendo unveiled the availability of Crosswords DS, with over 1,000 crossword puzzles at different skill levels. “Crossroads DS brings crossword puzzles into the 21st century in a way that’s accessible to everyone,” Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales and Marketing said in a statement.

Nintendo Channel currently offers demos of Brain Age 2, CrossworDS, Flash Focus, Cooking Mama 2 or Ninja Garden Dragon Sword. In addition to that, the Channel also offers recommendations from other Wii game owners, together with links to various retailers, such as Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

The Channel is also capable of tracking the games the user plays: “We would like to offer you the opportunity to receive game recommendations based on your actual game play,” the channel menu reads, as MTV Multiplayer blog posted. “To receive this service, you must agree to allow Nintendo to collect nonidentifiable info from our console, such as the games you play and the time you play them. Nintendo will then use this information to recommend games to you and develop new games and services.”

European users will still have to wait until May 30 to get their eyes on the Nintendo Channel. Although it isn’t perfect, the channel looks good, and sounds promising, so Europeans have something to look forward too. You can take a peek here.
