“Hairspray” star Nikki Blonsky is likely to have another
lawsuit on the role, due to assault charges following the brawl involving the
family of “America’s
Next Top Model” contestant Bianca Golden.
The conflict started last week in the airport lounge at
Turks & Caicos, where Blonsky was saving five seats for her family by
keeping the luggage on them. Coincidence or just bad timing, Golden, her mother
and brother wanted to sit down on the same seats, and tried to remove the
luggage. There is no information about the content of Blonsky’s luggage, but apparently
it was precious enough to get into a skirmish for it.
Things escalated from there. The families of the two 19 year
old celebrities started to punch each other, causing some bad injuries to some
of the opponents. The most damaged victim was Elaine Golden, Bianca’s mother,
who was airlifted to a hospital in Miami,
Florida where se was treated for
a broken nose and cracked skull.
"I am in pain all the way down my arms and legs,"
Elaine told the Turks and Caicos Weekly News, Thursday from her hospital bed.
"I can hardly talk or walk and my head is hurting all over."
Meanwhile a hospital spokesman said mom had checked out so it can't be too
serious.
For the Bronsky family the luggage incident resulted in
arrest days and multiple charges of assault. On Friday the plump actress was
released on a 6.000 $ bail, but her father is still in custody. Bianca Golden
was also arrested and released on bail.
Nikki Blonsky will have to appear in Turks & Caicos
criminal court on charges of assault with actual bodily harm, which carries a
maximum sentence of two years, and common assault, also known as threat of
assault, with a 90-day maximum term.
Her father Carl was charged with grievous bodily harm, meaning the victim was
injured so severely they needed immediate medical care. The charge carries a
five-year maximum sentence.
After her success as Tracy Turnblad in the widely acclaimed
musical Hairspray, Nikki Blonsky got involved in a big lawsuit with Margaret
Karaszek and Michael Ostrowski, who claim to have discovered her, only to be
dropped six days after they got her the role in the film.
Invited on the Oprah Show, the actress/singer said that she
heard about the role while working as an ice cream scooper and won it at an
open call. On the other hand, Ostrowski speaks about the efforts they made to
promote Blonsky along many years.
