Nikki Blonsky, the teenage star of “Hairspray” and her
father were arrested Friday in a Caribbean airport on
assault charges after being involved in a brawl with a former contestant of “America’s
Next Top Model” over seats in the departure lounge.
Of all stars likely to get into a violent fight entailing
arrest and hospitalization, few would have chosen Nikki Blonsky, the
19-year-old star of last year’s box office hit “Hairspray.”
Yet there you have it – the unexpected has happened.
People.com reports Blonsky and her father were arrested in the Turks
and Caicos Islands after getting into what appears to be a very
serious physical confrontation with Bianca Golden, a former contestant of “America’s
Next Top Model.”
Sgt. Calvin Chase from the Providenciales Police Department
in the Turks and Caicos Islands told People.com that the
fight started in the departure lounge of the Providenciales
International Airport.
All passengers had passed through security and seats in the
departure lounge apparently were the reason of discord. Nikki Blonsky, who was
traveling with father Carl Blonsky and other family members, tried to save
several seats for her family.
This apparently angered Bianca Golden, 19, who tried to take
one of the seats for herself, according to TMZ.com. The argument climaxed when
Carl Blonsky assaulted Bianca Golden’s mother, Elaine, who reportedly had to be
airlifted to a Miami hospital.
Nikki Blonsky suffered injuries as well, adds TMZ, as she
was seen the following day wearing a neck brace.
Blonsky was released on bail. Her father remained in jail
pending an Aug. 8 hearing. Golden was likewise arrested and released on bail.
Both Blonsky and Golden were charged with assault with
actual bodily harm. Carl Blonsky was charged with grievous bodily harm.
