Sadly for “Desperate Housewives” fans and cast members equally, the show’s star Nicollette Sheridan who plays real estate agent Edie Britt is heading for a quick exit from the show after a five-season run.
In a statement released by Sheridan’s rep on her behalf, the 45-year-old actress insisted she wasn’t fired, and that she had “a great time on the show” but it’s time she moves on to other projects.
Confirming the departure, show creator Marc Cherry revealed that during the series’ fifth season, Sheridan's character would be crossing a moral boundary that “will have have devastating consequences for her and lead to a shocking conclusion to her time on Wisteria Lane.”
ABC gave no further details about the timing or circumstances of the departure of Sheridan's loud-mouthed character.
According to E! Online, Edie who started off the season newly married to a man calling himself Dave Williams, will discover that he is planning to kill her. It was revealed in earlier episodes that Williams was seeking to take revenge on fellow Wisteria Lane resident Mike Delfino for accidentally killing his wife and child in a car crash.
“Dave almost does kill her. She runs out of the house but, alas poor Edie gets in an accident, something involving her car and electrical wire,” a show insider said.
The news came as a shock not only for fans, but for co-star Eva Longoria Parker who said it’s hard to imagine the show without Nicollette Sheridan’s character.
“I love her so much as a person and I love the character of Edie Britt, that I can't imagine the show without her,” Longoria told “Extra.”
