Nicole Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden are expecting a second baby almost a year after the 27-year-old socialite gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, on January 11, 2008.

 

Joel Madden, the lead vocalist of the band Good Charlotte, wrote on the group’s Web site that he was very delighted to welcome a new baby and that he could not wait for Harlow to become a big sister.

 

The message the 29-year-old musician posted on the Internet was entitled “Better than Winning an OSCAR,” thus highlighting his excitement with regard to his partner’s pregnancy.

 

Nicole Richie, the adopted daughter of Academy Award and Grammy Award-winning actor and singer Lionel Richie, starred in 2003 along with BFF Paris Hilton in the first season of reality series “The Simple life,” which featured the two celebrities living for a month with an ordinary family in the rural community of Altus, Arkansas. Since the ratings decreased considerably during the next four seasons that followed, Fox announced that a sixth season of the show would not be produced.

 

Nicole Richie has had several high-profile relationships. The actress dated DJ AM from 2003 to 2005, but the couple split following a nine-month engagement. She was also linked to childhood pal Brody Jenner of MTV’s “The Hills.”

 

In the summer of 2007, Nicole Richie confirmed that she and Joel Madden, the ex-boyfriend of singer and actress Hilary Duff, were expecting a child.
