Nicole Richie, the star of the television show “A Simple
Life” and the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, was sentenced and placed three
years in probation. She will also pay a $2,048 fine.
Also she was ordered to complete a 21-day alcohol education
course. Last year in December Nicole Richie was arrested for driving under
influence after a police patrol was alerted that her 2005 black Mercedes SUV
was going the wrong way on an Altadena, California
freeway.
After she was arrested, Richie admitted to the police officers
she had smoked marijuana and taken Vicodin, a prescription painkiller.
Nicole Richie admitted she is guilty, although in a
preliminary trial back in February she denied the allegations.
She had already been convicted for drunken driving in June 2003. Under
California law, two convictions within a 10-year period can result in a
jail sentence
Richie will have to complete his jail sentence until
September 28 and Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Steve Lubell warned
the star that she would "go to County Jail" if she violated the terms
of her probation.
In the recent weeks, the media reported that Nicole Richie
might be pregnant with Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden,
who was with her today.
